What to do when a video has no captions

Understand the difference between reading an existing caption track and transcribing spoken audio.

Check for another caption language

The absence of your preferred language does not always mean no captions exist. Check the source player’s caption menu and distinguish translated tracks from original captions.

Consider speech recognition

If no usable caption track exists, audio transcription needs access to the audio and an available model service. That is a separate operation, may use credits and can take longer.

Know when retrying will not help

A deleted video, inaccessible private post, silent clip or music-only track cannot become a useful speech transcript simply by retrying. Verify the source before starting another task.

Keep uncertainty visible

Noisy recordings, overlapping speakers and unfamiliar names can produce errors. Review the result with playback and preserve uncertain sections for manual correction.
